The Philippine Embassy in Oslo revealed it is going to primarily focus on renewable energy and outsourcing in its trade promotion campaigns in Norway.

Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso said that the embassy is seeking Norwegian cooperation and assistance to renewable energy and outsourcing, the country’s two top core competencies.

She said that when she met recently with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, she discussed the country’s desire to open cooperation on renewable energy development and distribution with Norway after the passage of the Renewable Energy Bill late last year to reduce the country’s reliance on traditional sources of energy such as oil and gas.

Gusto ko i-focus ang aking attention sa renewable energy dito sa Norway kung paano tayo matutulungan ng Norway, na kung puwede silang mag- invest or mag-transfer technology sa atin para sa development and distribution of renewable sources of energy like geothermal energy, “ Buensuceso added.

This effort, she said, is in line with the country’s drive to fulfill its ambition to be number one in terms of production and potential in geothermal energy by 2013.

According to the International Geothermal Association (IGA), worldwide, the Philippines is second only to the United States in producing geothermal energy.

Norwegian assistance is also being sought in the development of renewable sources of energy available in the Philippines such as solar, ocean waves and wind power.

Aside from renewable energy, the embassy here in Oslo is also going to push for more investments in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

I will be calling on the captains of industry here in Norway and meet with them guerrilla-style para ipakilala ang galing natin sa outsourcing”, Buesuceso added.

Among the BPO services that she will be offering to Norwegian businesses are finance and accounting services, animation, creative arts and non-voice services.

She said that she will also work on encouraging outsourcing experts in the Philippines to develop voice outsourcing services by developing Norwegian and Danish language experts to supply the need for these services especially in medical transcription.
